Color Perception 颜色知觉

Color is one of the most obvious and pervasive qualities of human visual perception. While it is possible to recognize objects and perform most visual tasks without chromatic information, color adds another dimension to perception. After watching a black and white film on television, one is often struck by the richness of perception when a colored image is restored. Similarly, a black and white photograph of a natural scene, seldom conveys the full beauty of the original.

Color plays an important role in many different areas of our lives. Important messages are often conveyed by colored signals - red usually meaning danger or stop and green, go or all clear. Color coding is used extensively in industry, e.g. electrical wiring, electronic components, pipelines, gas cylinders, chemical containers etc. In education, color is a useful tool for reinforcing concepts and many learning schemes adopt a system of color coding.

Over the past decade the use of computers has increased dramatically. Modern computers are capable of displaying many thousands of colors on the screen simultaneously and colors are often used to code or highlight different classes of information on the screen.

The value of color in advertising is now well established - different combinations of colors being used according to the nature of the product or service being advertised.
